Verizon Wireless has announced the introduction of the new Blackberry 9850 Torch. The new Torch will add Verizon’s impressive line up of Blackberry smartphones and has been eagerly anticipated by the Blackberry faithful who have had to endure years waiting for the release of a model that can measure up to the likes of Apple’s iPhone.
With Blackberry’s stronghold on the mobile phone marketplace slowly eroded from competition from the likes of the iPhone and the rest of the Android devices, the 9850 Torch is RIM answer and new weapon. The 9850 has RIMs new OS7 operating system that was specifically designed for the new enhanced screen touch models. The new Torch has a 3.7 inch screen and does not have a built in keyboard. This is not new to RIM as they tried this approach with the Storm series. However, with a much faster 1.2GHz processor and true touchscreen the new 9850 is a contender.
RIM has launched 5 new models over the summer but the 9850 and 9860 Torch have been the most anticipated. If the phone is what it is racked up to be, it could be a real winner and Blackberry could see not only a return of customers it lost to iPhone and Android, but most importantly it could stem the waves of customers that have left in search of the complete touchscreen experience.
