RIM, the parent company of the Blackberry handheld mobile devices and Smartphone?s, announced today that over the next few months it would launch 5 new models.

It was also announced that all five models would run on the Blackberry 7 OS. The much talked about QNX software and operating system won?t be available until 2012.

There will be two new Bold models and three new Torch Models that will be available through most of Blackberry?s worldwide network of wireless carriers.

In the United States, AT&T has already said that it would carry three of the new smart phone models. The 9900 Bold, the 9810 Torch and the 9860 Torch will be GSM models and will work on wireless carriers like T-Mobile, Rogers, Vodafone, Orange, O2, Movistar and Three. Sprint a CDMA network in the United States will carry the other two. The 9930 Bold and the 9850 Torch are CDMA devices and will work on wireless networks like Verizon, Bell, Telus, Movilnet, and Wind.

The new models include the Torch 9810. This will be a second-generation phone after the original 9800 Torch. It will run on the new 4G operating frequencies. It will still have the vertical slide out Qwerty keyboard like the original Torch.

The new 9900 Bold will also be a 4G Blackberry. Similar in shape and functionality to the 9000 Bold but much faster, with better screen resolution and with the new OS7 operating system.

The new BlackBerry Torch 9860, will have a touch screen and will not have a Qwerty keyboard. The Torch 9860 is RIM’s replacement for the old full-touch screen BlackBerry Storm line. This is the model that goes head to head with Apple?s iPhone.

The 9930 Bold is similar to the 9900 but is made specifically for CDMA carriers. The same with the new Blackberry Torch 9850, similar to the 9860 but for CDMA networks.

Research in Motion is moving along to try and regain lost market share. RIM has been the leader in smartphone for many years, but over the past few years the iPhone and other Google Android based devices have eroded it lead.
